Day 8 ~ Snaffle Bit Futurity

The Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro Finalists have been determined and the champions crowned in the Amateur and Non Pro Limited divisions. We also saw a big, competitive Open and Limited Open Hackamore horse show class, and Million Dollar Rider Zane Davis is in the hot seat for another round of Million Dollar Questions. It’s all here in the latest edition of the Reno Wrap Up:

Futurity Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro & Novice Non Pro

The Snaffle Bit Futurity Non Pro preliminaries concluded Monday with the cow work, and it took a 623.5 score to advance to the clean-slate finals Friday, October 2. The list of top 15 riders is led by Wolfford, Texas, competitor Parke Greeson, who rode Sioux Me Please to a composite 638.5 (214 herd/207.5 rein/217 cow).

In the Intermediate Non Pro, 11 riders will return to the finals, and it took a 620.5 and above to qualify.

The Novice Non Pro finals bubble was 613. Ten riders will compete for the Championship in that division.

Futurity Amateur

The Futurity Amateur Champion was Lyle Proctor, Ravensdale, Washington, who rode SJR All Time Cash (One Time Pepto x Shesa Lota Cash x Nu Cash) to a 636 composite score (211 herd/216 rein/209 cow), earning $5,460. Proctor also took home a Bob’s Custom Saddle sponsored by Larry and Ellen Bell; a CR Morrison Trophy and Gist Buckle sponsored by Linda Wood/Chandler Ranch; a $500 gift certificate from CR Ranchwear; a 30X hat from JW Brooks Custom hats; a fleece cooler from Classic Equine; a monogrammed Cinch jacket; and product from Platinum Performance. Proctor’s score also earned him a berth in Friday’s clean-slate finals in the Non Pro, Intermediate Non Pro and Novice Non Pro divisions.

Futurity Non Pro Limited

LaDona Emmons, Ione, California, won the Futurity Non Pro Limited division aboard her gelding, Stylish Ike (Playin Stylish x Miss Catty Cash x Nu Cash), scoring a 639 (214.5 herd/208.5 rein/216 cow). Emmons’ championship paycheck totaled $3,007, and her prizes included a Bob’s Custom Saddle, CR Morrison Trophy and Gist buckle from the NRCHA; a 30X hat from JW Brooks Custom hats; a fleece cooler from Classic Equine; a monogrammed Cinch jacket; a $500 gift certificate from CR Ranchwear; and product from Platinum Performance.

Limited Open Hackamore

One horse show class champion was crowned in Reno, and Danielle Lybbert, Valley View, Texas, won the Limited Open Hackamore title aboard Hi Hill Bud (High Brow CD x Roses To Rubies x Smart Little Lena) with a 418.5 (211.5 rein/207 cow). Danielle took home a $1,350 check, along with a Gist buckle from the NRCHA and product from Platinum Performance.

Open Hackamore Prelims 

The high score in the Open Hackamore preliminaries, a 440 (222.5 rein/217.5 cow), belonged to Hickory Holly Time (One Time Pepto x Hickorys Holly Cee x Doc’s Hickory), shown by Kelby Phillips for owners Garth and Amanda Gardiner. Eleven horses out of the 41-horse field will advance to the clean slate finals on Thursday, October 1. It took a 430.5 score and above to qualify for the finals.
