NRCHA Premier Event Update and More

First and foremost, the National Reined Cow Horse Association board of directors and staff hopes everyone is safe and healthy. The current situation at the national, state and local level is changing at a rapid pace for all. Several questions have been asked regarding the association’s premier event schedule. The information listed below will help answer many of those questions. As more definite plans are finalized in the near future, the website will be updated with the newest information.

The NRCHA board is staying up-to-date with the latest developments and frequently reviews the best possible options for all aspects of the association – everything from premier events and sanctioned shows to long-term planning and day-to-day operations. The NRCHA appreciates everyone’s patience as these uncharted waters are navigated. Together, the association, its members, sponsors and all involved will come out stronger and more successful.


NRCHA Stallion Stakes:
new dates and location to be announced

The NRCHA Stakes features 4-and 5-year-old horses who are sired by subscribed stallions. In addition to this robust limited age event, the Stakes offers a complete set of horse show classes and several three-event spectaculars.

On Friday, March 13, the NRCHA board of directors voted to postpone the Stallion Stakes until further notice. The association is pleased to announce that new dates have been determined for the event. The rescheduled dates, location and other details will be made as soon as all the pieces are finalized.

NRCHA Derby: June 7 – 14 /// Paso Robles, California

The NRCHA Derby is held in Paso Robles, California, the perfect place to enjoy good cow horses and delicious wine. Paso Robles is charming city located in the heart of wine country and just miles from the Central coast.

The NRCHA Derby is home to the Jack and Phoebe Cooke Memorial Derby and the Holy Cow Performance Horses CD Survivor Memorial Open Bridle Spectacular. A full slate of horse show classes run along side these two prestigious events, bringing the total added money to more than $189, 250. This time of year and location makes for a great family vacation.

The NRCHA board of directors and staff are planning to run the NRCHA Derby as scheduled.

NRCHA Eastern Derby:
new dates and location to be determined

The National Reined Cow Horse Association is proud to debut its first premier event east of the Mississippi. The Dom Conicelli Memorial Eastern Derby, presented by MARS Equestrian™, has been added to the 2020 premier event schedule. Added money of $64,450 will be dispersed among a Pre Futurity, Derby, two full slates of horse show classes and several spectaculars.

The Tennessee Miller Coliseum recently exercised their 90-day cancellation policy and cancelled all events that were scheduled at the facility through July 31, 2020. The NRCHA board and staff are quickly working to find a new Eastern US based venue with similar dates.

NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity:
October 9 – 24 /// Fort Worth, Texas

The 2020 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity ®, presented by Metallic Cat, returns to the famed Will Rogers Memorial Center, Fort Worth, Texas, with more excitement and added money. If you have a 3-year-old, you won’t want to miss out on being a part of history and participating in one of Western performance industry’s most respected event.

While the Snaffle Bit Futurity may not start for several months, the entry process is well underway. Below you will find a nomination schedule for your futurity entry. Don’t let today’s situation deter you from continued pursuit of your dream and $725,500 in added money.

The NRCHA board of directors and staff are continuing plans to run the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity and Hackamore Classic as scheduled. Progressive and slot payments should continue to be postmarked on time.

NRCHA On Demand

The National Reined Cow Horse Association is pleased to report over 66,000 minutes of past premier events have been viewed through NRCHA on demand. Thank you to everyone tuning in to watch. Videos are available to watch in 48 hour sessions. At Noon C.S.T. every other day, a new event is published. Upcoming events include the 1998 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity cow work finals.

NRCHA Office Update

On Monday, April 6, Denton County, Texas, extended the “stay-at-home” executive order to April 30. The NRCHA staff continues to work remotely. During this time, normal business hours will be maintained, phone calls to the office will be forwarded to the appropriate staff member and emails returned as usual. The NRCHA staff strives to best serve the membership.
