Jaylee Brown Win Non Pro Boxing Futurity Title

Two weeks ago, Jaylee Brown had no intentions of competing at this year’s Snaffle Bit Futurity®, let alone walking away the Non Pro Boxing Champion.
Jaylee and Hinge, a 2020 gelding by Rollz Royce and out of Cat Never Lose, marked a composite score of 860 (C:219.5/R:205.5/C:217.5/F:217.5) to come out on top of the competition.
In the weeks leading up to the Snaffle Bit Futurity®, it was Jaylee’s husband Myles who was responsible for convincing her to even compete.
“He asked me about riding Hinge, and I said no just because I was nervous,” Jaylee admits. “My nerves got to me, but Myles had me work with Hinge that same night and he was just really good and easy to get along with.”
Before the prelims, it was Jaylee’s goal just to make the Finals. After accomplishing that by winning the Level 1 Non Pro Boxing, she knew she had a good chance at the Finals but went in with a positive mindset.
“I feel like it’s always a goal when you’re in the Finals to win so of course it was on my mind,” Jaylee explains. “I knew I needed to go hold my cow, show my horse, and have a clean run – I knew I had the horse that could do it.”
It all came down to Saturday night for the Non Pro Boxing Finals where Jaylee was first out and had a cow that put her abilities to the test.
“The cow was a little tricky, and really wanted me to get up close to him. He was just kind of a tougher cow to work but Hinge was great and rose to the occasion,” she recalls.
It’s clear that Jaylee made her first Snaffle Bit Futurity® without a doubt one to remember. Although they have had a short partnership together, Hinge has rightfully earned a spot in Jaylee’s heart.
“He’s got a great demeanor and he’s really just a goofy horse. He’s got a lot of personality that you’ve just got to love,” she says.
From seeing him first drop on the ground, to then halter breaking him with Myles, Jaylee has got to see all of Hinge’s biggest moments but walking out of the arena as the 2023 Snaffle Bit Futurity® Non Pro Boxing Champions is something they can share together and that Jaylee is sure to never forget.
