A milestone moment unfolded at the 2026 NRCHA CINCH Stallion Stakes as Matt Koch officially surpassed the $2 million mark in National Reined Cow Horse Association earnings, joining only seven other NRCHA Professionals who’ve achieved this impressive accomplishment.
Koch added $68,218 in earnings during the event, which helped tip the scale in his favor. A significant portion came from a strong performance in the Open Stakes finals, where he placed fifth aboard Shine Yer Sugar (Kit Kat Sugar x Shine Yer Gun x Shiners Nickle), owned by She’s The One Ranch, earning $40,000.
While the achievement marks a major career benchmark, Koch was quick to reflect on the horses that helped shape his journey.
“There's been a bunch,” Koch said. “SJR Hitime Shine, he’s been a really good horse and he's just so much fun to show. SDP Blue Blood back in the day, that was the first horse I got into this. And every other one that let me train them and go show.”
SJR Hitime Shine (High Brow Cat x Shiners Little Oak x Shining Spark), owned by San Juan Ranch, has contributed $230,701 to Koch’s earnings, while SDP Blue Blood (Laredo Blue x SDP I Got Good Genes x Dual Rey), owned by Blue Blood Partners, accounted for $111,583.
Despite the magnitude of the accomplishment, Koch remains grounded.
“I never really thought it was something I would ever do, honestly,” Koch said.
With the $2 million milestone now behind him, Koch is already looking ahead.
“Next is three million, I hope,” Koch said with a smile. “Who knows?”
NRCHA Executive Director Emily Konkel praised Koch’s achievement and the consistency behind it.
“Matt’s career is a reflection of dedication, horsemanship, and competitive excellence in the arena,” Konkel said. “Reaching the $2 million mark is a significant accomplishment, and it speaks to his level of commitment and success.”
