Born
in 1981 and sired by NCHA Hall of Fame sire Doc’s Oak, Smokum Oak was
out of Gunsmoke Ann. With only a limited show career, Smokum Oak amassed

Smokum
Oaks’ prowess in the show pen was just a prelude to his proficiency as a
sire. The stallion was the corner-stone for the breeding program of
Wright’s Quarter Horses.
His foals have been champions in working
cow horse, reining, and cutting. The best known of those being Smokums
Prize, who won the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open and Non Pro titles in
2000, and was the highest earning 3-year-old in the history of the
NRCHA. His lifetime earnings exceed $217,000.
